So after spending 3 hours to get from level 7 to level 10, I have reached the ability to play the famed “Monster Play” portion of Lord of the Rings: Online. But I will get to that in a later article. This one will be for day two of playing my little emo-champion. There really isn’t that much to say since last night in all honesty. Quest, kill, return, get new quest, kill, return, so on, so forth. Your average run of the mill grinder as it were. I suppose the only difference is that the quests have become slightly more difficult and I have been forced to group with people if I want to complete some of them. Which as I said last night, IS OBSCENLY ANNOYING. I don’t mind people, most of the time, but most of the time people are so stupid that I am constantly amazed at the fact they were able to turn on their computer, let alone get into an online game. This is going to be pretty short and sweet, as like I said, not much has really changed… ONWARD! ( In no particular order )
Traveling: As any good game should have, LoTR:O has the use of travel. Such as in World of Warcraft where you have birds to take from you point a to point b, LoTR:O has little ponies to do the job. The one ability I liked was that you can get off the horse and stop your trip at any time you wish, this came especially handy when questing between towns… though the World of Walking Craft effect has set in with the questing. Most of the 3 hours I played today was spent… that’s right… walking.
Experience Gain: Now I understand that games these days like to give out more experience for questing as compared to monster killing but holy hell. Killing mobs in LoTR:O is pretty much pointless unless you are looking for crafting items… which I have not yet attempted… as I find crafting to be about as entertaining as cancer.
Community: While what little community plays the game is nice enough I suppose… I believe the entire time I’ve played thus far I have seen about, oh… 10-12 people in total. Now while I don’t like grouping with people, I do like to know that the game I happen to be playing isn’t a complete graveyard… which in this case, it is.
No-Auction For You!: Something that irked me greatly was that trial accounts cannot use the auction house… thus trial accounts are stuck with the bottle of the barrel equipment… because yes… having shit weapons and armor to kill some retardedly difficult spider makes me want to buy the game for sure... especially after getting killed 15 times or so, by said… SPIDER. The auction house is also a good way to tell how large the gaming community is. Full auction house, lots of people. Empty auction house… you get the point. This might explain why trial players do not have access to this little feature.
Like I said I will get the monster play either tonight or tomorrow, but in closing I’d like to giggle at the fact that apparently I made some of the LoTR:O fan boys at MMORPG.Com a little angry. Of course when the most someone can say is “YER DUM”… it doesn’t really speak too highly of the intelligence of the community defending said game.
Of course these are Tolkien fans we’re talking about here.
